Cyriel Minkenberg received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, in 1996. He joined the high-speed switching group at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory to work on architecture design, performance simulation, and design verification in the PRIZMA project. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D in packet switch architecture, which he expects to complete in 2001.
Ton Engbersen was born in the Netherlands. After completing his graduation at the Eindhoven University of Technology, he received a scholarship for the ETH in Zurich. He enrolled in the ETH's PhD program and finished his PhD in 2-dimensional signal processing while working at the IBM Research Laboratory in Rueschlikon. At IBM he was instrumental in bringing VLSI Design skills to the laboratory in the mid-80ies and developed in the early 90ies the PRIZMA switch architecture. PRIZMA has become a family of communication switch offerings IBM is marketing today through its IBM Microelectronics Division. In 1996/97 he spent two years at the IBM Watson Research Center in Yorktown where he was leading the initial development of MPLS. Since several years he has been managing the High-Speed Network Technology Research Group at the Zurich Research Laboratory. Today his interests are in Networking Technology, Scaleable Network Processors, Scaleable Switching Technology and SDH/Sonet. Since 1994 he is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology where he is currently serving a two-year term as member of the coordinating committee.
