1. On ComSoc TC Recertification Committee (TCRC) Deliberations (Pradeep)

Pradeep informed that the TC exec. positions will be open to the members from ComSoc sister org. as well. TAC mtg. during Infocom was not successful, so they will continue to meet only during Globecom & ICC conf.
Out of 21 TCs, only 17 have submitted reports & requests for re-certification. In future the no. of TC supported by ComSoc may be reduced, TAC and M&C Directorate of ComSoc have now announced the formal process of dealing with complaints from TCs regarding the organization of GICC conferences (Globecom and ICC) that must invite each TC to be a part of the TPC for GICC conferences.

IEEE Communication Society has announced the formation of a new Emerging Technologies Committee (ETC) that will the incubator for any new TCs in emerging technologies, such as security & nano technologies.
During Globecom03, EntNet will co-sponsor (with Quality & Reliability TC) a symposium on communication security

2. On GICC Meeting (Shri)

Shri informed us that we need to attract more practitioners in our conferences. There are ~ 12K R&D personnel who consider attending ComSoc conferences.

There are now 60000 members in the IEEE Communication Society, of which more than 20K developers usually do not feel attending anyof our conferences.. ComSoc M&C (at the instance of the ComSoc President) has now created a new initiative led by Shri Goyal and Scott Atkinson to investigate and suggest a package of measures to attract the Design and Development engineers to GICC conferences. That may lead to new forms of tutorial and Business Applications Sessions at these conferences.

We will be seeing a new logo for ComSoc very soon.
Regarding co-sponsoring of meetings and conferences, our policy is NOT to allow any statement like "pending ComSoc sponsorship" or “sponsored by IEEE ComSoc TC…” in the CFPs.

3. On Special Issues and New Conference Activities (Pradeep/Lundy)

For 2003, JSAC has the call for special issue out. If we are interested we should contact Nick Maxemchuck to allocated slot for EntNet.

Lundy and Pradeep are guest editing a special issue of the Journal of Network and Systems Management ( JNSM) on E-Business Management.

This special issue is scheduled for publication in early 03.This special issue is scheduled for publication in early 03.

4. Healthcom2003 (Samir)

HealthCom03 will be held in Santa Monica, CA from June6-7, Samir Chatterjee of Claremon Graduate Univ is the general Chair. This event is technically co-sponsored by IEEE Comsoc and expecting sponsorship from IEEE Society EMBS and the City of Hope, the leading Cancer Research Institute. Efforts are underway to attract sponsorship from leading Healthcare IT organisations, such as WebMD, Microsoft, KP, etc.

5. Financecom03 (Fethi)

Pradeep presented a proposal for an International Workshop on Enterprise Networking, Applications and Services in Finance Industry (FinanceCom03) initiated by Fethi Rabhi of UNSW and Mike Aytkin of CMCRC from Australia for July 2003. This event fits in with the EntNet charter (as endorsed by the TAC in 2001) to promote activities in networked applications. Healthcom was also initiated in the same manner in 1999. There was a concern raised by Vinay, and Gabe on spreading thin TC efforts by supporting small activities. Shri suggested that we may consider merging Healthcom and Financecom with EntNet to create a mega event. The committee accepted the proposal for Financecom03 with a plan to revisit issues these issues after one year.

We also need to have a liaison in all the events we co-sponsor in 2003 and beyond, so that we can evaluate the quality in order to decide on whether to continue our support in future or not.

6. Report on EntNet @ SUPERCOMM 2003 Progress (Gabe)

We are in the stage of finalizing the OC/TPC list with several new people like Phil Edholm from Nortel, Luciano Gaspary from Brazil, Renee Ayer from Interprose, and Philippe Lassarre from Alcatel, France. We have now liaison positions from Europe (tbd - candidates Philippe or Latif Ladid from Ericsson, or Paulo de Souza), Latin America (Luciano Gaspary) and Asia Pacific (Pradeep Ray). Vinay Chandhok agreed to be the TPC co-Chair, which will help my work tremendously.Pl. find attached file with the names, affiliation and contact information of the members of the OC/TPC.
Brock informed that Kim Simpao (IEC) got another assignment and will be not able to be the Publicity Chair for the conference. Shri voiced concern that Tod Clark, the planned replacement person for Kim would not be able to act affectively because of the heavy workload. Brock will forward this concern to Jan Janowiak in order to solve the issue.
The suggested focus of the program will be on new market realities and business drivers, mobile enterprise, enterprise security and vertical market applications. The make up of the panels is the same 1+4/2+1: opening plenary panel (possibly the panel on new market realities and business drivers), then four parallel sessions with two panels each and closing plenary session. At this moment we have about 3-4 invited panels and have collected 10 open call panel proposals. Since the submission deadline is Dec 20th, I expect more proposals coming.

We have done pretty well with publicity distributing CFP via IEEE ComSoc exploder, having it in the IEEE Network magazine, the all three websites (IEC, IEEE ComSoc and EntNet) are up, hardcopies have been and will be distributed at DSOM, NGN, IM and Globecom. Also IEC is doing their own glossy advertisements.

7. On EntNet @SUPERCOMM2003 Tutorials (Lundy)

The plan is to have 4 tutorials as at the last conference. At the moment we have two tutorial submissions. There is a suggestion to charge a relatively small fee, something around $250.00-300.00 per pass to attend any tutorial.

8. Cooperation with EDOC (Masayoshi)

Masayoshi informed us that EDOC02 was a successful event. Around 70-80 people from 15 countries attended the conf. focused on end-to-end application areas. Masayoshi proposed that EntNet continues to endorse to ComSoc the co-sponsorship of EDOC2003 which will be held in Australia,October 2003 and it was agreed. Pradeep suggested Masayoshi to be EntNet representative for EDOC and it was agreed. Masayoshi wanted help from a local person in Australia for EDOC2003 PC. Pradeep suggested the name of Fethi Rabhi. That was agreed.

Masayoshi also informed us that we (EntNet and TCII) have co-sponsored the symposium on Virtual Enterprise during GlobeCom02, and 8 papers have been accepted out of 30 submissions.

9. Globecom2003 Symposium on Communication Security

Victor Wei, the Chair of this Symposium elaborated on the plan emphasize on practical aspects of Communications Secirity in this symposium. Koichi Asatani and Keinchi Mase (Chair and TPC Chair of CQR TC) pledged support for the event on behalf of CQR TC alongwith EntNetTC.
