EntNet Report for GlobeCom 2001 Meeting
Prepared by Pradeep Kumar Ray, EntNet TPC Chair

SUMMARY

1. Thanks to efforts by Gabe Jakobson and Bhumip Khasnabish, EntNet is
in the process of reaching another milestone. If everything goes well,
IEEE Network magazine will have the first issue on
Enterprise Networking strand by Feb 2002
http://www.comsoc.org/socstr/techcom/ntwrk/special.html
(this is something this TC has been trying for a few
years). It may be noted that most of the IEEE Comsoc publications are
too focussed and it becomes difficult to convince the editor-in-chief to
agree on bringing out such issues due to the much broader scope of
EntNet events (which are quite popular also).

2. Healthcom2001 was successfully held at L'Aquila Italy. The highlights
were:

  • Proceedings with ISBN
  • Full papers refereed
  • Key note speech by Dr. Arnauld Nicogossian of NASA, one of the
    pioneers in telemedicine
  • speakers from 10 countries in Asia, North America, Australia and
    Europe
  • Healthcom2002 will be held in June 2002 at the University of Nancy,
France (application for technical sponsorship submitted to ComSoc
    in Nov 2001)
  • Healthcom is shaping into a high standards IEEE Workshop, such as
    DSOM
  • Selected papers are being considered for publication in the
Telemedicine Journal (one of the top journals in this area)

Like EntNet@SUPERCOMM, Healthcom also allows us to undertake activities
in collaboration with other technical bodies, such as APAMI, and ATA.
Healthcom has been so popular that we have hosting requests upto 2004.

3. EntNet and TCII are involved in organising the GLOBECOM2002 (at
Taipei) Symposium on "Service Infrastructure for Virtual Enterprises".
We request all members to give maximum publicity to this event.
