Report on Entnet @ SUPERCOMM 2002 -2004

During the last three years EntNet @ SUPERCOMM has established itself as a well-recognized international event in the technical and business community of enterprise networking and services with its theme and agenda. The main focus of the conferences has been in new technological solutions targeted to immediate business applications. The main targeted population has been enterprise networking and services researchers, practitioners, vendors, business executives.

The conference demonstrates a successful practice of collaboration between IEEE Communication Society as the technical program developer, and the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) and SUPERCOMM as organizational co-sponsors of the event. In 2001 the EntNet TC decided to change the organizational format of the conference: move from the technical paper sessions the panel sessions program. The following conference format was adopted: 2 plenary sessions, 8 panels running in two parallel sessions and 4 tutorials. The new format has proved its success: the attendee number moved from 120 in 2001 to 445 in 2002, and to 666 in 2003.

EntNet in 2002 demonstrated first time that the conference became an accountable event. The 3rd International Conference on Enterprise Networking and Services @ SUPERCOMM 2003 (Entnet @ SUPERCOMM 2003) was held in Atlanta, Ga on June 2-3, 2003. The conference was organized by IEEE Communications Society (technical program) and co-sponsored by International Engineering Consortium (IEC) and SUPERCOMM 2003.

The conference program included 10 technical panel sessions, including 2 plenary sessions and 4 tutorials. The conference program covered a wide variety of important technical and practical issues related to enterprise networking, services and applications, including the technology solutions and business drivers for public WiFi access, Storage Area Networks, Security management of WLANs, VoIP in Enterprises, Business process automation, Enterprise mobility, and other topics.

Some conference statistical data:

1. Registered attendance - 666 attendees

2. Overall attendance with multiple sessions - 942

3. Participants from 35 countries worldwide

By the account of the attendee feedbacks, comments given to the conference OC and the press reports, the conference turned into a visible success. It can be said that EntNet @ SUPERCOMM has firmly established itself as a countable event in enterprise technical and business community with its agenda and theme. Entnet got deserved attention of the press. The local Atlanta Journal Constitution published a full Business section front-page article "Wi-Fi hits hot spot with Internet users" featuring the EntNet's Wi-Fi session. Also, the SUPERCOMM's Daily News had a section describing EntNet in its June 4th issue

An expanded conference program was adopted for EntNet 2004: the conference was extended from a two-day program to two and a half-day program, and a workshop was included into the overall conference program. It was also decided to make the conference tutorial program as paid events and add a charge for the conference CDs.

Although the conference organizations expenses were mostly covered by SUPERCOMM, the conference in 2002 and 2003 has met the 20 % budget surplus criteria.
