The Internet Technical Committee (ITC) is active in several areas. It
has successfully launched new workshops and symposiums, is providing
co-sponsorship for Internet-related events, and holds face-to-face
meetings as needed to ensure further progress. For more information, click

The Internet Technical Committee (ITC) has successfully launched and established several workshops on topics relevant to the Internet community, including
Global Internet,
Internet Services and Enabling Technologies, and
Network Services and Operation.
Global Internet (GI) Symposium is the flagship event established and organized by ITC. It is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society and ITC. Until 2002, the symposium was held in conjunction with
IEEE Globecom and since then has moved to be held in conjunction with
IEEE Infocom. The symposium provides a forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss advances in Internet-related technologies. The focus of the symposium is on experimental systems and on emerging Internet technologies. | Year | Location | Technical Program Chairs | |

The symposium targets academic and industrial research activities that are focused on techniques to improve the delivery of services over the Internet, both wireline and wireless. It encompasses the design, implementation, and management of networked services and applications, as well as underlying protocols and technologies that enable them, including, for example, SIP, P2P technologies, network virtualization, and presence information. | Year | Location | Technical Program Chairs | | 2006 | San Francisco, CA, USA | Volker Hilt, Anees Shaikh |

Network Services and Operation The Network Services and Operation symposium was created in a joint effort between ITC, the Computer Communications TC and the Communications Switching and Routing TC. It will be held for the first time in conjunction with IEEE ICC 2007. The concept of network convergence was developed to merge different networks into one multi-service network. This concept is becoming real using an Internet-based infrastructure and Internet protocols for transferring information. However, strategic research is still required to achieve the best integration architecture, services and operations management, and service provisioning in both wired and wireless domains. Many topics like network resilience, network and service security and availability, Quality-of-Service, or mobility management in the future network are still widely considered by researchers, network operators, device manufacturers and service providers. The symposium provides the forum for discussions on this and other challenging research areas concerning network operation and services in future converging networks. | Year | Location | Technical Program Chairs | | 2007 | Glasgow, Scotland | Burkhard Stiller, Marcus Brunner |

ITC Meetings
The committee conducts
most of its business, including voting for officers, electronically.
If
the need arises, ITC meets at IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, or IEEE Infocom.
The last ITC meeting was held on November 27, 2007 at IEEE Globecom in
Washington, DC. The next ITC meeting
is at IEEE Globecom 2008 in
New Orleans on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 12:00-13:30 in Chequers Room (2nd Floor).

Rewarding Deserving ITC
Members
Beyond the scientific
activities, ITC's scope includes nomination of deserving members for
awards, promotions to IEEE Senior Member or IEEE Fellow, and for
Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society. Individual
ITC members can make suggestions for such nominations at any point in
time by sending an email to any of the current ITC officers. The
officers will review each suggestion and support a nomination as
appropriate. The current ITC secretary will also solicit suggestions for
such nominations at least once a year via the ITC mailing list.
