
Executive Director - Jack Howell
John M. (Jack) Howell has been the Executive Director, IEEE Communications Society since 1997. Prior to the private sector, Jack was a member of the Senior Executive Service as Special Assistant to the NASA Deputy Administrator, and was selected for Colonel in the United States Air Force before retiring. Air Force assignments included a combat tour in Viet Nam, faculty instructor at the US Air Force Academy, and R&D management assignments in the Pentagon. Jack earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the US Air Force Academy, a Bachelor of Laws Degree in American Law and Procedures from LaSalle Extension University, and a Master of Science degree in Astrophysics from the University of Arizona prior to his faculty assignment at the US Air Force Academy. He is married with two grown children. Interests include middle-school science education mentoring, performing arts set design, and competitive running.
