Objectives
IEEE ComSoc Interactive Magazines (Communications Interactive (CI), Network Interactive (NI), and Personal Communications Interactive (PCI)) are the online versions of the IEEE Communication Magazine, IEEE Personal Communications, and IEEE Network. IEEE Interactive Magazines complement the print version of the magazines by providing content and multimedia enhancements to the articles, as well as carrying Interactive Magazines only articles. Through Internet access, it enables its subscribers to access the current issue of the ComSoc magazines and allows the search and retrieval of its rich digital library archive.
Organizational Structure
The ComSoc Interactive Magazines Editorial Board is responsible for the multimedia enhancements, as well as the Interactive magazines only articles. Members of the Interactive Magazines Editorial Board are appointed to their positions by the Editor of the Interactive Magazines, drawing upon field of candidates from the membership at large, with special attention given to individuals who have previously served in related capacity and/or specialized in a technical area of interest to the Magazines. The Editor shall confer with the Director of Magazines in making a selection. All members of the Editorial Board shall serve a nominal two-year term, with terms expendable to another year, based on mutual agreement of the Editor and the Member of the Editorial Board.
The editorial board is supervised by a steering committee, which consists of the director of the magazine, Editor-in-Chiefs of IEEE Communication Magazine, IEEE Personal Communications, and IEEE Network, Editor of the Interactive Magazines, and the ComSoc Magazines Publications Manager, and other members of ComSoc New York office staff as the need arises. The steering committee is responsible for setting up policies for emerging online publication issues, and other issues related to the publication of the Interactive Magazines.
Activities
The publication of the Interactive Magazines is currently synchronized with the publication of the print version of the magazines.
As soon as an Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of any of ComSoc three magazines will have a paper that has been accepted, he/she will inform the Editor of Interactive Magazines (EIM) with the decision going to the author, along with a copy of the original paper.
The EIM will select one of his Technical Editors who is closest to the area to handle the paper. The selected Interactive Magazines Technical Editor (IMTE) will contact the author and check if he/she has any multimedia enhancements already available for this paper and/or if the author had any new ideas for some multimedia enhancements. Also the IMTE would suggest some additional multimedia enhancements appropriate for this paper. The IMTE would then pass these ideas and recommendations on possible implementation method(s) to the EIM, who would then review and evaluate their feasibility and doability and pass this information to the ComSoc New York Office staff, who will carry out the implementation.
The ComSoc Office staff will post the paper (only for our internal use; by staff and Interactive Magazines Editorial Board) as soon as it arrives from the author(s) in its final form. This may help and expedite the work of the IMTEs. All papers are expected to be posted for public use on the first day of the month of publication.
