Standards

The voting membership of the ComSoc Standards Board is made up of nine members: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and six others. The Chair is also the ComSoc Director of Standards, and is appointed by the Society President in consultation with the VP Technical Activities. The Chair appoints the two other Board officers and remaining six members in consultation with the VP Technical Activities. Other individuals support this Board, namely select IEEE Standards Association staff and project Working Group Chairs. In addition, each ComSoc TC is requested to identify a Liaison to the Board. Those liaisons are recommended by the respective TC Chair, require endorsement of the VP Technical Activities and Board Chair, and serve at the pleasure of the Board Chair. The principal task of the Standards Board is to encourage, nurture, and guide ComSoc standards initiatives and the resulting Working Groups. The ComSoc Standards Board shall proactively advance the visibility and influence of ComSoc standards activities. The Standards Board is responsible for maintaining and interpreting the content of the "IEEE Communications Society Policies and Procedures on Standards Development Activities" document. The Standards Board Director reports to the ComSoc Vice President-Technical Activities. The Standards Director is also responsible for maintaining relations with the IEEE Standards Association Standards Board, and its standing committees.
