IEEE ComSoc NY Chapter Seeking Breakthrough in Next Gen Network Architecture

IEEE ComSoc NY Chapter Seeking Breakthrough in Next Gen Network Architecture

In the evening of February 20th in New York City, IEEE ComSoc New York Chapter held its first technical session of the year. Warner Sharkey, P.E.(DE), Chapter Chair introduced the Speaker Mr. Vito Leggio MSc(EE).  Mr. Leggio, also the Vice Chair of the Chapter, presented a talk on his PhD research work entitled “Next Generation Network Architecture.”

The following is an abstract of this presentation:

New York Chapter event - The Next Generation Network Architecture

"The advent of virtualization in the computing industry has a profound impact on usage pattern where IT resources are expected to be available anytime, anywhere. However today's networks lack of automation and programmability prevents networking architecture solutions to be dynamically delivered to users without significantly increasing operational complexity.

By abstracting a logical view from the underlying infrastructure, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Application Aware Networks brings programmability to networking and computing industry for more agility, flexibility, and scalability.  As enterprise/ regional networks become converged and interact better with applications, new types of architecture using the enterprise and solutions architecture can be envisioned.

Intelligence oriented technologies and architectures are becoming more readily available.  Flexible intelligence tools and approaches are appearing in some areas, including network management systems, data storage and warehousing, virtualization and cloud computing. “

The presentation, held in The Empire Room within the Parsons Brinckerhoff offices on 7th Ave., Manhattan, was well attended with an audience of about 30 people.

Introducing China Communications - A Joint CIC-IEEE Publication

Introducing China Communications - A Joint CIC-IEEE Publication

INITIATING CHINA COMMUNICATIONS AS A
JOINT CIC-IEEE PUBLICATION

Introductory Message from

Vijay Bhargava, President, IEEE Communication Society
Steve Weinstein, Chair, China Communications Editorial Council

The IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) is happy to be joining with the China Institute of Communications (CIC) to announce that beginning with this January, 2013 issue, China Communications is fully co-sponsored by our two societies. Professor Junliang Chen, an outstanding editorial leader, will continue to serve as Editor in Chief, aided by three distinguished Associate EICs: Prof. Zhisheng Niu who is an Editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine and a Guest Editor of this issue, Prof. Weimin Hao who is a senior advisor of Advisory Committee in CIC with over 50 years experiences in telecommunications engineering, research and management, and Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk, past Editor in Chief of IEEE Communications Magazine and ComSoc Director of Magazines.

Professor Chen and the three Associate EICs will oversee a strong international editorial staff, growing with the publication as it becomes a leading magazine for information and communication technologies (ICT) professionals around the world, with authors from many countries but with special emphasis on technology created in China. Manuscripts will be reviewed with the same quality criteria required in IEEE publications, and published articles will be archived in IEEE Xplore as with all IEEE publications. CIC will produce the magazine, with oversight of operations and editorial quality from an Editorial Council (steering committee) consisting of representatives from both Societies.

The chair of the Editorial Council, beginning with one of us (Steve Weinstein) in 2013-2015, will alternate between the two Societies at three-year intervals. ComSoc recognizes the importance of the technical community in China and has sponsored or co-sponsored numerous conferences in China. They include our main International Conference on Communication (ICC) in 2008 and the first International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC), held in Beijing in August, 2012, from which the content in this issue is drawn. ICCC, like this publication, will in the future be co-sponsored by CIC and ComSoc. We have great hopes for a long and fruitful collaboration of our societies, benefitting the membership growth and technical prominence of both societies.

For this magazine, we are contributing our experience and expertise from many years of publishing IEEE Communications and other successful magazines. We anticipate increasing interest from industrial technologists as well as academics in the content of China Communications, stimulated by a gradual increase in the proportion of practical, applications oriented articles. We cordially invite authors in China and around the world to consider China Communications as a prestigious, highly regarded publication for both new work and reviews of key topics.

Explore the future beyond LTE — Self Organizing Networks

Explore the future beyond LTE — Self Organizing Networks

Facing today's rapid explosion of data growth, and the growth of LTE networks, how do we find a way to automate the networks in a fast, safe and flexible fashion, and at the same time cut down networks operation costs without compromising quality?

Self Organizing Networks (SON) has increasingly become a key role in achieving these priorities.

ComSoc invites distinguished instructor and expert on SON technology, Javan Erfanian to offer a power packed one day online course on 12 February 2013 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm EST.

Self Organizing Networks:
Within an End-to-End LTE / LTE-Advanced Roadmap
Participants will learn about how Self Organizing Networks are playing a role in the current and emerging LTE landscape, walk through the definition of Self Organizing Networks (SON), how to identify its drivers, gain in-depth understanding of the SON Technologies including Self-Configuration, Self-Optimization, Self-Healing, and Self-X.

Course will also focus on Development of SON Requirements & Standardization (NGMN, 3GPP), SON in the End-to-End Technology Paradigm Evolution (Dynamic, Seamless, Reconfigurable, Virtualized / Cloud-Based), and the SON Reality - Ecosystem Maturity, Realizations, What to Expect Next.

Are you ready to expore the future beyond LTE? This course will bring you the latest in research and development around SON, and provide the roadmap to your strategic decisions for the network solutions. You don't want to miss out!

Register today!
Course participants also qualify for 0.6 IEEE CEUs, and will receive a Certificate for attending the course.
