Boston ComSoc Chapter Latest Activities At-A-Glance
Submitted by Correspondent Soon Wan

The Boston chapter of the IEEE Communications Society has monthly technical meetings from September through June.  As part of our 2010 – 2011 program series we hosted a variety of interesting and diverse speakers. They came from multiple areas that included industry (Akamai, EMC, Oclaro, Polycom, and Qinetic), research labs (MIT/LL) and academic institutions (Lesley University). As we prepare for our next series of speakers, our program committee is eager to present a continuing interesting mix of speakers while maintaining high standards for presentations.

As an engineering community it has also been important for us to visit with operating organizations that can share their passion for their own special business mission and charter. Over this time period we visited and met with senior engineers at the digital broadcast studio for WGBH, a large public broadcasting organization. Also we were invited to tour and meet with the Akamai Network Operations Command Center (NOCC). The Akamai visit was especially interesting since Akamai manages such a large percentage of the servers responsible for Internet traffic.

On April 7th, 2011 the Boston ComSoc Chapter presented chapter secretary John Nitzke with an appreciation award plaque for all his hard work to increase the success and membership of the chapter over a multi-year period.
