IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials Tops Citation Rankings for Impact Factor in Telecommunications

According to the Thomson Reuters 2011 Journal Citation Reports released in June 2012, the impact factor of the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (ComST) is 6.311 and the 5-years impact factor is 5.496. Thomson Reuters calculates the impact factor of a journal in a given year by dividing the number of articles published in the journal in the preceding two years by the number of citations to those articles from articles indexed in the Thomson Reuters database and published in the given year. ComST tops the list of 8 publications published or co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (http://www.comsoc.org/publications), which are among the top 10 publications in the area of communications technology and science.  

 

About Editor-in-chief Ekram Hossain

Starting from 2012, Ekram Hossain is the new Editor-in-chief of IEEE Surveys and Tutorials. Mr. Hossain is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Victoria, Canada, in 2001. Dr. Hossain's current research interests include design, analysis, and optimization of wireless/mobile communications networks and cognitive radio systems. He has authored/edited several books in these areas.

Dr. Hossain served as the Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications in the area of "Resource Management and Multiple Access" from 2010-2011 and an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing from 2007-2012. Currently, he also serves as an Editor for the IEEE Wireless Communications. Dr. Hossain has several research awards to his credit which include the University of Manitoba Merit Award in 2010 (for Research and Scholarly Activities), the IEEE Communications Society Fred Ellersick Prize Paper Award, and the 2012 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE WCNC 2012) Best Paper Award. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Manitoba, Canada.
