IEEE ComSoc NY Chapter Seeking Breakthrough in Next Gen Network Architecture

In the evening of February 20th in New York City, IEEE ComSoc New York Chapter held its first technical session of the year. Warner Sharkey, P.E.(DE), Chapter Chair introduced the Speaker Mr. Vito Leggio MSc(EE).  Mr. Leggio, also the Vice Chair of the Chapter, presented a talk on his PhD research work entitled “Next Generation Network Architecture.”

The following is an abstract of this presentation:

"The advent of virtualization in the computing industry has a profound impact on usage pattern where IT resources are expected to be available anytime, anywhere. However today's networks lack of automation and programmability prevents networking architecture solutions to be dynamically delivered to users without significantly increasing operational complexity.

By abstracting a logical view from the underlying infrastructure, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Application Aware Networks brings programmability to networking and computing industry for more agility, flexibility, and scalability.  As enterprise/ regional networks become converged and interact better with applications, new types of architecture using the enterprise and solutions architecture can be envisioned.

Intelligence oriented technologies and architectures are becoming more readily available.  Flexible intelligence tools and approaches are appearing in some areas, including network management systems, data storage and warehousing, virtualization and cloud computing. “

The presentation, held in The Empire Room within the Parsons Brinckerhoff offices on 7th Ave., Manhattan, was well attended with an audience of about 30 people.
