Wireless Engineering Course Coming to Shanghai
For the first time, ComSoc Training is offering an intensive 1 Day course in the beautiful city of Shanghai during IEEE infocom 2011.
Course title: Practical Wireless Communications Engineering
Date: Friday, 15 April 2011, 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
Place: Shanghai International Convention Center, Shanghai, China
Shanghai is the largest centre of commerce and finance in mainland China, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy. Shanghai International Convention Center is located in the heart of Shanghai’s Financial and Trade zone, adjacent to the famous landmarks Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Bund, and facing the multinational styles of architecture along the Bund across the Huangpu River.
Practical Wireless Communications Engineering course will focus on the areas of RF Engineering, Wireless Access Technologies & Standards, Network & Service Architecture, Network Management & Security, Infrastructure, Agreements, Operational Standards, Policies, Regulations, and relevant engineering concepts.
Each registered course attendee will earn 0.6 IEEE Continuing Education Units, a course completion certificate, receive a copy of the instructor's slides and a copy of the Guide to the Wireless Engineering Body of Knowledge (WEBOK) published by John Wiley & Sons.
Instructor Luis Blanco is the President and founder of Telecom Services CognosEdge Education Inc., an expert in the industry and training. He has more than 25 years of telecom experience working in Canada, the United States, and Spain.
Who should attend? This course is especially well suited for those with an engineering or technology background, or an appreciation of wireless communications engineering and practice. It is also of significant interest for individuals working in a relatively narrow or specialized aspect of wireless communications, as it aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how different facets of wireless practice fit into the overall design, implementation, and operation of wireless networks. ComSoc Recognizes Long Time Members
Every year, ComSoc congratulates members who reach 10, 20, and 25 years milestones. Many thanks are extended for their dedication to the Society through their membership and active participation.
As of end of 2010, there were 12,300 members with over 10 years; 3,600 members with over 20 years, and 1,800 members with over 25 years membership with ComSoc. This is a testament to the vitality of the industry and the dedication of those who have chosen it as their lives' work.
In the next few weeks, those who reached 10, 20, 25 years membership marks in 2010 will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from ComSoc, a letter from the ComSoc President, and a special memento as a token of the special relationship ComSoc shares with its members. This recognition is a reminder of the many ways ComSoc membership helps members personally and professionally.
Students Develop App for ComSoc
Prof. James Won-Ki Hong and his students Yeongrak Choi and Yoonseon Han from POSTECH, developed and provided an iPhone application for ComSoc members with an Apple iOS device such as the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
The App was developed as part of a term project for a graduate course called, “Smartphonomics: Convergence using Smart Phones and Devices” in the Division of IT Convergence Engineering, POSTECH, Korea.
A beta version of this application was demonstrated at the ComSoc committee meetings at GlOBECOM 2010 in Miami last December. It showed how ComSoc members might soon be able to access ComSoc online content via their smartphones. The ComSoc iPhone App is now available to our members from the Apple App Store for free.
The team plans to provide similar native smartphone applications for Android-based mobile devices soon.
ComSoc membership exceeded the 50,000 mark - Greetings from ComSoc President
