WCNC'02 General Chair Dick Lynch is executive vice president and chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. Lynch is responsible for the performance of the company's coast-to-coast multibillion-dollar wireless voice and data network covering more than two million square-miles. In his prior assignment, he was executive vice president and chief technical officer for Bell Atlantic Mobile. Under his leadership, Bell Atlantic Mobile built one of the largest Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) networks in the country and launched the nation's first commercial Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) service. Until recently, Lynch served as chairman of the Wireless Data Forum, (formerly the CDPD Forum) an organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of wireless data to end user communities, the telecommunications industry, the media, and the information technology industry. Under his guidance, the CDPD forum was reformed as the Wireless Data Forum, embracing all wireless data technologies and a wider variety of members. For this, Lynch was honored with the CTIA President's Award. In addition, Lynch is a senior member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) and sits on the board of Sierra Wireless.
WCNC'02 Vice Chair Gerry Flynn is responsible for Advanced Technology Strategy and Industry Standards at Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. He is deeply involved in the development of Third Generation Wireless representing Verizon Wireless in 3GPP2 Steering Committee, Vice Chair TR45 Committee of the Telecommunications Industry Association, member of the CDMA Development Group Executive Board and Operators Harmonization Group. Flynn has been instrumental in the development of CDMA technology during the past ten years. While Technical Director of the Wireless Lab at NYNEX Science & Technology, he and his team conducted many of the early field trials of CDMA, which was the basis of IS-95. He is the founding Chair of the Telecommunications Industry Association's TR45.5 Subcommittee, which has developed the IS-95 family of CDMA Standards for Cellular and PCS. |
