Check out the Stevens Institute Web campus for Spring semester courses
To help you achieve your objective of advancing the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, or the
related sciences and technologies, ComSoc encourages you to take advantage of quality online education
programs at Stevens Institute of Technology. ComSoc is happy to continue to offer its members a 10%
discount for online “WebCampus” courses at Stevens. Of special interest are programs in Electrical Engineering
, Computer Science, and Project Management. Registration is now open for the Spring 2005 semester, which
begins on January 24. A complete list of Spring courses can be viewed at:
http://webcampus.stevens.edu/Spring_2005_Schedule.pdf
Detailed course and program descriptions as well as admissions information can be viewed at:

Online graduate programs offered by Stevens are particularly well-suited for busy engineers and managers with
tight schedules. You can attend these "virtual classes" day or night on the Internet. WebCampus courses are
conducted by highly respected faculty and cover the same intensive business and technical content as
conventional classes.
Some recent distinctions that Stevens has been noted for include:
winning the Sloan Foundation award for the “Best Online University” in the nation;
gaining accreditation of its Project Management program by the PMI (one of only three schools in the world to
be so recognized); ranking among the five top national business and technology schools in Optimize Magazine’s annual survey.

Guiding Women to Engineering Careers
Women make up 46 percent of the workforce in the United States, yet they hold only 12 percent of the jobs
in science, technology, engineering,
and math. Hoping to attract more women to careers in engineering, a coalition of engineering associations and
societies including the IEEE,
together with the WGBH-TV Educational Foundation in Boston, have established the Extraordinary Women
Engineers Project. Read more.
REVISION TO TIP CODES: The IEEE Technical Interest Profile (TIP) codes
The IEEE Technical Interest Profile (TIP) codes have been restructured making them simpler to manage and
maintain. In addition, the changes have made the TIP codes a more useful source of our member's technical
interests. Members can now manage their own TIP code profiles through IEEE's web based Change of Profile
site throughout the year. Previously, members were only given the opportunity to update their TIP profiles once
a year during renewal. The new TIP structure includes a migration to a multi-level hierarchical system, allowing
members to choose high level broad based technical codes
or unique technical codes at subsequent levels that are specific to that technical area. The new TIP structure
also allows for a shared list of "core" codes spanning multiple technical areas allowing IEEE entities the
capability to select members which have a common cross-technical
interest.

Vijay Bhargava Recognized by Royal Society of Canada
When IEEE Fellow Vijay Bhargava journeyed from his native India to Canada as an 18-year-old to study
engineering at Queens University in Kingston, Ont., he had no intention of staying in North America.
But 38 years later, he's still there. He's become a renowned educator and
wireless technology pioneer. Recently, Bhargava's adopted country recognized his contributions to wireless
technology by presenting him with the Royal Society of Canada's Thomas W. Eadie Medal. Read more at
