This issue announces the introduction of US Patents that reference ComSoc Digital Library publications,  a new optical communications technology event, two new awards,  plus lists the top 10 most popular articles in ComSoc periodicals for April 2004. US Patent Cite ComSoc Authors

US Patents after 1998 that reference ComSoc publications can now be found in the citation area of ComSoc Digital Library papers. About 9,000 references to 3,500 papers are included, mostly citing periodical papers. See the Digital Library at http://dl.comsoc.org/DL

2004 IEEE Communications Society Election
Ballots were mailed Friday, 28 May 2004 to all Higher Grade IEEE Communications Society members and Affiliates (excluding Students) whose membership was effective prior to 30 April 2004. OFC AND NFOEC combine to create leading optical communcations technology event.  The executive management of the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and
Exposition(r) (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference(tm) (NFOEC) today announced plans to combine the two events into one comprehensive conference and trade show exposition to take place March 6-11, 2005 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim,California.  For more details, go to http://www.ofcconference.org/

3.1 AWARDS

Winners of the IEEE Guglielmo Marconi Award Announced 

Yan Xin, Zhengdao Weng and Georgios B. Giannakis have been selected to receive the 2004 IEEE Guglielmo Marconi Paper Prize Award in Wireless Communications. Their paper "Space-Time Diversity Systems Based on Linear Constellation Precoding" was published in the IEEE Transactions on Wireless, Communications, Vol. 2, No. 2, March 2003.  The IEEE Guglielmo Marconi Best Paper Award is an annual award, sponsored by Qualcomm Inc., for an original paper in the field of Wireless Communications published in the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications in the previous calendar year. IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Industry Leader Award

QUALCOMM Chairman and CEO Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs was awarded the IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Industry Leader Award for contribution and leadership in the wireless communications industry by the IEEE Communications Society. 3.4 TECHNICAL COMMITTEE NEWS
The Multimedia Communications Technical Committee launched its electronic newsletter. Check out the first issue.

Proposed Ad Hoc & Sensors Communications & Networks Technical Committee
Given the large number of papers submitted on the topics of Ad Hoc and Sensors Communications and Networks, the IEEE Communications Society is
sponsoring a new Conference on this topic to be held October 4-7, 2004. For more information, go to http://www.ieee-secon.org/2004

In addition to this, a new Technical Committee covering this subject is about to be created. Construction began on the Volta Bureau Building under the supervision of Alexander Graham Bell. This National Historic Landmark functioned as a center of information for deaf and hard of hearing persons
