Get involved with WCET…..The IEEE Communications Society’s Wireless Communications Engineering Technology (WCET) Certification project continues to make progress. Read the monthly columns in IEEE Communications Magazine. Visit the www site. Recently the PATF revised the delineation.  And those revisions will be subject to one last review by the PATF before the delineation is distributed for a broad-based review via a large scale survey. If you want to participate in a pilot of this survey, you can sign up at the www site or click here.

View two free recorded Webinars.... Metropolitan Optical Networking and Wireless/Optical Integration and  Implementing Optical/Wireless Integration, IEEE Communications Society Webinars sponsored by NEC Labs America, were held 13 April and 18 May 2007. Both are available for viewing free of charge. Access through the registration site, Library of Past Programs.

Master current design techniques for wireless communication systems…. The June 2007 ComSoc/Wiley Book of the Month is Freeman’s Third Edition of Radio System Design for Telecommunications Optical Switching.  Readers get all the tools and guidance they need to master an essential set of current design techniques for radio systems that operate at frequencies of 3 MHz to 100 GHz. Check the ComSoc www site each month for new special offers.

2007 ComSoc Elections now underway! The 2007 ComSoc Board of Governor’s election has begun and will run through August 10. This year 4 new VPs and 4 new Members-at-Large will be elected to the Board.  A new format will be tested this year and next year called  e-first voting.  Ballots will be sent electronically to all voting members who will be asked to vote at a secure Web site.  Members wishing to vote with a paper ballot have the option of requesting one be mailed to them.

As before, the biography and position statement of each candidate is available to voters via a link to the ComSoc Web site.  Since IEEE policy does not permit the use of IEEE e-mail lists for electioneering, the Nominations and Elections Committee is promoting an organized electioneering process for the VP candidates using a Question and Answer format.  The Q and A will appear in future e-News issues, on the ComSoc Web site, and in the Communications Magazine.

ComSoc is making a concerted effort this year to inform members of the ongoing election, and urge them to “get out and vote!”

CEO Forum at ICC….Don’t miss the innovative CEO Forum at the 2007 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 24-28 June, Glasgow, Scotland. Mr Arun Sarin, Chief Executive of the Vodafone Group and conference General Chair, introduces some of the world’s leading industrialists to share their visions of the future. Speakers include Pat Russo: (CEO Alcatel Bell Labs), Ben Verwaayen: (Chief Executive BT), Niklas Zennstrom: (CEO Skype), Sanjiv Ahuja: (CEO Orange), Steve Ballmer: (CEO Microsoft) - video presentation. Online registration is open.

New online tutorial posted ….  MIMO Systems for Wireless Communications (2 hours and 55 minutes, 127 slides) presented by Constantinos Papadias and Angel Lozano has recently become available. A free five minute preview is available. View all online tutorials at the ComSoc Tutorials Now program web page.

IEEE WCNC 2008 Call for Papers .... Submissions welcomed for papers, panels, and tutorials in all areas of wireless communications.  For a list of potential topics, submission instructions, and general conference information, visit http://www.ieee-wcnc.org/2008.

April 2007 list of Top Ten articles available now…The monthly ComSoc Top Ten list of those papers receiving the most requests for PDF views through IEEE Xplore is now posted on the ComSoc www site. See the ComSoc www site headlines at www.comsoc.org
