QUALCOMM Chairman and CEO Receives Prestigious Industry Award for
Contribution and Leadership in the Wireless Communications Industry

On March 29, 2004 QUALCOMM Incorporated pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, chairman and CEO of QUALCOMM, was named this year's industry leader by the IEEE Communications Society.

IEEE Communications Society recognizes an information or communication industry executive who has played a major leadership role in research or development and introduction of systems, devices, applications or services that have significantly impacted the communications and information markets on a global basis, and substantially advanced the use of information and communication technologies in industry, commerce and society.Dr. Jacobs joins an elite group of industry leaders and pioneers who include Dr. Keiji Tachikawa, president of NTT DoCoMo, Inc.; John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems; and Jorma Ollila, chairman and CEO of Nokia Corporation.

"Dr. Jacobs exemplifies the mission of the IEEE Communications Society, which is to promote the advancement of science, technology and applications in communications and related disciplines," said Curtis A. Siller, Jr., president of IEEE Communications Society. "His executive leadership of QUALCOMM has resulted in advances and new directions in the information and communications industry. The IEEE Communications Society is pleased to recognize his contribution with our Industry Leader Award."

Dr. Jacobs received this honor for his contribution to and leadership in the development and growth of the wireless communications industry. Dr. Jacobs has guided CDMA through its success as the world's fastest-growing, most advanced voice and data wireless technology. Tens of millions of consumers worldwide rely on CDMA for third-generation (3G) wireless services.

Curtis Siller presented the award during the opening reception of the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) held last week in Atlanta. The IEEE Communications Society is led by industry professionals for the common purpose of driving the advancement of communications technology. IEEE fosters original work in all aspects of communications science, engineering and technology.
