ComSoc members attended and participated in JARA's Annual Field Day Week End Activities held at Cranbrook Estate in Saint Ann, July 12 - 14, 2002. The activities formed part of JARA's Hurricane Preparedness Drill.

On December 1, ComSoc participated in the Jamaica Amateur Radio Association (JARA) Annual Fun Day at Bowden Wharf. This location is been evaluated as a possible Field Day location.

ComSoc was involved in planning the Jamaica Section's Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Banquet at The Talk of the Town Restaurant, on the 17th floor of The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Friday, December 6. Mr. Everton Davis who was the Guest Speaker gave us a lot to think about. Awards were presented to Section and ComSoc EXCOM.

On Saturday, November 23, a second visit was made to the National Headquarters of The Jamaica Red Cross at   White Marl, Saint Catherine, to correct outstanding problems with the transmission line of the main HF Beam      antenna and the still cable mechanism of the crank-up tower.   

The Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday, December 18 at The Norman Manley Suite of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Programmes in schools

1. ComSoc officers visited Saint Thomas Technical on September 26. Met with Principal, Heads of Science        and Electrical Installations Departments. Discussed collaboration projects to stimulate science &         technological development 
2. All five schools invited to Geographic Information System (GIS) Open Day on November 20, at the Assembly Hall, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus
3. ComSoc arranged a meeting with Ardene High School and Ministry of Land & Environment, on October 9. Among the topics discussed is the teaching of courses  in GIS and GPS
4. Received a request from Mavisville Preparatory School in November, to source science equipment for Science Room at the school.
5. Presentation on "Requirements for the Development of Students" to Mavisville’s Teachers and Parents by        Dr. Polly Bowes-Howell, on December 11.

Membership

Increase in membership continued from the tremendous success in 2001 to sixty-one and now in 2002 to seventy-one. Latest figure is that membership has increased to one-hundred and twenty-four.

Certificates were issued to EXCOM members for service to ComSoc.
