We have been achieving sustained success in our membership drive. By the end of November 2001, our membership was sixty-one, or approximately 31% of total membership. By  October 2002 we increased to seventy-one. Led by a very aggressive membership drive effort, Ms. Sophia Williams has been achieving remarkable success in signing new, as well as renewing members. In one of her endeavours, she signed to gain persons in one company. Potential members are always urged to sign, so as to gain access to numerous benefits.

ComSoc's programme to encourage the development of science and technology in schools achieved yet another milestone. On this occasion, it was ComSoc's collaboration with JARA (Jamaica Amateur Radio Association) for the introduction of a new, but far reaching initiative. This initiative is an IRLP (Internet Radio Linking Project) radio link with students outside of Jamaica.

On Wednesday, April 2, students from Mavisville Preparatory School in Kingston, Jamaica, spoke to students from R. Tait McKenzie Public School in Almonte Springs, Ontario, Canada, via this amateur radio link. Both sets of students were overly excited and expressed joy for this unprecedented experience. The potential for expansion of this programme seems virtually unlimited.

The next project was on Thursday, April 10 at Mavisville Preparatory School. This was a presentation and hands-on experience to compose music, with a software programme named Fruityloops. The students were again very excited and some expressed interest to purchase the software from the online website at www.fruityloops.com  The presentation was done by Mr. Wayne Marshall. Wayne is a United States national who is currently reading for his doctoral degree on the link between reggae and contemporary music.  Wayne has written several pieces and if you are interested you may view them at www.wayneandwax.org
