MISSION
|
To provide leading edge communication information by regular meetings, presentations, and the establishment of various networks, to foster goodwill and improve the knowledge of people. |
HISTORY
The Communications Society (ComSoc) Chapter of Jamaica was approved in November 1998. This formation was due to constant influence by Ms. Celia Desmond, from the Toronto Chapter, as well as the need by local ComSoc members to establish a group, which would stimulate and propagate interest in communications.
All ComSoc's operating requirements have been fulfilled. The Chapter has a fairly busy schedule of events. Monthly Chapter meeting attendance range from fifteen to thirty-five, while the two Distinguished Lecture Tour (DLT) attendance were one hundred and five and forty-six respectively.
The Chapter's activities range from technical monthly or administrative meetings, collaboration with schools regarding science and technology, collaboration with JARA and ODPEM to provide Amateur Radio Operators in time of emergency, as well as assisting the Jamaica Red Cross, in maintenance of their radio sites.
ComSoc Jamaica Chapter was represented at the first Regional Chapter Chairs Congress (RCCC) in San Francisco December, 2000 and the Global Chapter Chairs Congress (GCCC) in San Antonio, December 2001. We are also represented on the annual Chapter Achievement Award (CAA) Committee, formerly Chapter of the Year Award.
A wide array of far reaching activities have been achieved by the Jamaica Chapter. Please check Archive for details.
