The purpose of this new publication is to bring together and better
serve the growing community working in the field of optical
communications. We will accomplish this mission by addressing the
needs of a large number of engineers and engineering managers for the
dissemination of the state-of-the-art information useful for their
practices via in-depth and yet easy-to-understand presentations.
Currently, such needs are not satisfied by existing commercial
publications.

The mission of IEEE Optical Communications is to publish quality
papers in the area of optical communication networks, systems,
subsystems, and components at a level suitable for the optical
communications practicing engineer. All papers will be peer reviewed.
IEEE Optical Communications will accept advertising from companies
with a special interest in optical communications, particularly in
the areas of components, testing, and software design.
