Meet the ComSoc Board of Governors team who are leading our Society. Let's hear from you. We'll post your questions and hear their responses.
Question: "What is one thing you would like to be done in the next 2 years. And why?"

I would like to see ComSoc become the largest technical society in the IEEE.
Doug Zuckerman, Director - IEEE Division III

In this two years I would like to see a better involvement of our Sister Societies in COMSOC. All together we address a constituency of over half a million engineers and working together we can multiply our impact on the world. We are striving to achieve this by setting up joint activities in a two year plan.
Roberto Saracco, Director - Online Content
I would like to see many more ComSoc members and volunteers become engaged with the various ComSoc social media so that there is more and better sharing of information and knowledge from ComSoc conferences and publications, and, most importantly, from each other – that will make ComSoc a valuable community!
Stan Moyer, Director - Marketing & Industry Relations

Growing our "emerging" training program for engineering practitioners to on a par with our conferences and publications product lines. Why? To increase our relevance and the value proposition to the private company employers of 37% of our members.
Jack Howell, Executive Director

There is a gap between industry and academia. Industry views academia as publication-focused: self-centered, lacking innovation, unaware of IP. Academia views industry as money-focused: driven by the bottom-line, innovating too quickly, product-focused. I would like to see more input from industry and emphasis on understanding "innovation" to close this gap.
Stephen F. Bush, Director - Standardization Programs Development

Be able to lower registration fees and related expenses for attending ComSoc conferences. WHY? This would allow more people and students from all countries to attend our flagship events. HOW? By organizing conferences preferably in locations where hotels and facilities are more affordable, avoiding most expensive cities.
Stefano Bregni, Member-at-Large - Class of 2012

I think it is important that Comsoc continues to work hard to demonstrate its value to all of its members. I would like to see ComSoc focus on improving its services to all of its members, both in industry and academia, providing high quality and timely educational and technical materials.
John Thompson, Member-at-Large - Class of 2014

Together with a concert effort from all members of North America Region Board (NARB), I will communicate and engage all 93 North America chapters to pursue excellence of ComSoc missions. In next two years, we will hold NA RCCCs and additional chapter chair meetings during ICC/Globecom and other IEEE conferences.
Yigang Cai, Director - North America Region

Help the Asia Pacific(AP) region members be more successful in their professional and IEEE ComSoc careers by providing valuable information and services. Encourage the Asia Pacific members to be actively involved in both APB and IEEE ComSoc activities. Help AP members and IEEE ComSoc be more healthy and prosperous.
Kwang Bok Lee, Director - Asia/Pacific Region

As the new VP-Conferences of ComSoc, I would like to enhance the quality of our conferences, increase ComSoc membership participation in our conferences, improve industry participation in our conferences, and broaden technical domain of our conferences towards new and emerging topics as well as ignored ones.
Abbas Jamalipour, Vice President - Conferences

One of the things I would like to do over the next two years is to promote the creation of a ComSoc repository, inspired in the model of arxiv, that can serve as a vehicle for the rapid dissemination of technical results, ideas, and advances.
Angel Lozano, Member-at-Large - Class of 2014

As Director of Conference Development I see my main challenge to extend our conference portfolio to yet untapped areas. More concretely I'd like to establish one or more conferences focusing on our industry members. Further we want to establish a set of regional events that provide a convenient, low barrier "entry point" for our international academic as well as industrial members."
Heinrich J Stüttgen, Director - Conference Development

In the next two years, we hope to review and clarify our conference publication policies, which tackle issues such as intellectual property, no-shows, author list alternation, plagiarism, page lengths and page charges, and republication in non-IEEE journals. Another goal is to keep abreast of alternate paper submission and CD-ROM production systems, and investigate their potential benefits.
Neelesh Mehta, Director - Conference Publications

In the next two years, I would like to further enhance the quality of our journal publications. As I promised during the election, I will do my best to improve the review process, reward excellent editors, maximize the diversity of editorial board in terms of expertise, geo-location, gender, ethnic, experience, and occupational background.
Chengshan Xiao, Member-at-Large - Class of 2014

I would like to have all ComSoc technical activities can be transmitted online, using web conferences technology, for the benefit of all ComSoc members.
Pedro Aguilera, Director - Latin America Region

I would like to see several initiatives advanced such as the chapter vitalization program which includes participation in social networks and the development of regional conferences. Moreover, we plan to re-evaluate ComSoc services and the inclusion of new ones that capitalize on current technologies such as tutorials for mobile devices.
Nelson Fonseca, Vice President - Member Relations

As Director of Journals I work to ensure timely, quality handling of manuscripts. I would like to see a set of guidelines that describe and discuss the mechanics and ethics of editing put in place. I would also like to see that new and current journals in our field thrive.
Sarah Kate Wilson, Director - Journals
I think we need to identify the most important emerging technical areas, and facilitate ComSoc’s entry into these fields. This will require increasing the flexibility in how we create new technical committees, as well as encouraging more collaboration across existing technical committees.
Len Cimini, Vice President - Technical Activities

We need active participation and contribution from technical committees and subcommittees to develop relevant, timely, and useful standards.
Kevin W. Lu, Director - Standards Development
