5.13 Regional Board - North America   - approved 3/99 -


Purpose
The North America Regional Board promotes and coordinates the activities of members and chapters in Regions 1 – 7, providing support necessary to develop membership and expand member participation in ComSoc chapters, conferences and workshops.

Organizational Structure
  • Regional Director
  • Vice President - Membership Development
  • Additional members (for regional representation)

Activities
Actions/Goals/Objectives
  • Encourage chapter members to attend ICC and Globecom.

  • Attend local Section and chapter meetings whenever possible.

  • Encourage and support chapter sponsorship of conferences and workshops.

  • Work with staff to develop regional web page that links to local chapters.

  • Assist with Student Travel Grant Program.

  • Support local chapters in all their endeavors.

Concerns/Issues/Initiatives
  • Obtain accurate information - including current chapter chairs.

  • Do the Chairs know how ComSoc can help them achieve their goals?

  • Do chapters know we can help them design and link web pages?

  • Getting more employers to value our member’s participation in ComSoc.

How to Make it Happen
  • Assist chapter Chairs in understanding the numerous ways headquarters staff can assist them with projects and support their goals and objectives.

  • Contact chapters in the Region and build an accurate database.

  • Send "letters of introduction" to chapters from incoming Regional Director.

  • Sponsor local chapter receptions at ComSoc conferences held in the Region.

  • Increase ComSoc web "presence".

  • Publish membership-oriented articles in IEEE Communications Magazine.
