Leonard J. Cimini, Jr.

Candidate's Statement

While the Communications Society should be proud of its publications and conferences, several challenges must be addressed if the Society is to play an influential role in the rapidly changing world of communications. ComSoc publications and conferences must become more timely and relevant and must be more accessible to a broader audience. In addition, to bridge the growing divide between academic and industrial needs, an outlet must be provided for emerging, often interdisciplinary, technical areas. I believe that my background in both industry and academia, combined with my diverse IEEE service activities, will enable me to effectively initiate action on these issues.

Biography

Leonard J. Cimini, Jr., received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He worked at AT&T, first in Bell Labs and then AT&T Labs for 20 years. Since 2002 he has been a professor at the University of Delaware. He has been very active within the IEEE, serving on the program committees of numerous conferences, the editorial boards of several publications, and various technical, awards, and strategic-planning committees. Currently, he is chair of the Emerging Technologies Committee, a group of industrial and academic leaders organized to propose new technology initiatives for ComSoc.
