Thomas M. Chen
Candidate's Statement
Our ComSoc community has an increasingly important role in an information-driven
world. Our publications, conferences, and other services foster
and promote our community and profession. If elected, I will work
toward the goals of enhancing the value of ComSoc services to its
members, in particular expanding the use of electronic media, and
growing our ComSoc membership worldwide among students, educators,
and professionals. I will also be committed to promoting Communications
Society activities and ensuring that ComSoc continues to have an
important impact on our society at large.
Biography
Thomas M. Chen is an associate professor in Electrical Engineering
Southern Methodist University. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees
in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University
of California at Berkeley. Within the Communications Society, he
currently serves as Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications
Magazine and Senior Technical Editor of IEEE Network. He was the
founding editor of IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials and
ComSoc e-News. He is currently serving as Treasurer for the IEEE
Computer Society Technical Committee on Security and Privacy.
