Candidate's Statement
ComSoc is respected for its technical journals, magazines, and conferences
in the IEEE community, but there are many more people who can benefit
from ComSoc membership and participation. The perception that ComSoc
activities are mainly of interest to academics needs to change.
Thus ComSoc penetration into the industrial sector must be strengthened
and the business-related content in our magazines and conferences
should be further increased. ComSoc will provide a two-way benefit
for industry and academia, by bringing together like-minded professionals
who can share new technologies, research, and system developments.
Our magazine and conferences should become ever more stimulating
and indispensable as a result.
ComSoc needs to be financially secure. This can be best achieved
by focusing on growth. Key products and services must have priority,
with other activities restructured where necessary, to ensure their
efficient delivery.
The excellent work in providing Web-based services and electronic
journals will be further developed so that ComSoc-authored products
are more frequently cited and accessed.
I have participated in ComSoc at many levels since 1990, from active
participation in the local Chapter and IEEE Section, serving on
technical committees and organizing major conferences for ComSoc,
and finally, serving six years on ComSoc's Board of Governors.
