Dear IEEE Communications Society Voting Member:
Our annual elections are quickly approaching! In the above paragraphs you will find the position statements and biographies of an outstanding slate of candidates to manage the IEEE Communications Society.
I am personally requesting that you take time to consider the candidates’ individual position statements and descriptions of prior experience – and then casting your votes beginning 30 May! The slate of candidates corresponds to the President-Elect position and four Member-at-Large positions on the Board of Governors.
With this election, our Society concludes its two-year trial of “electronic-first balloting;” thus, ballot cards or electronic ballots will be sent to all Members 30 May and must be returned to IEEE on or before 25 July. In keeping with a decision made by the Society’s Board in November 2006, electronic voting is now the first and preferred option. For those who might not receive electronic notification or opt for a paper ballot, that, too, will be available.
In prior elections the issue of “electioneering” has occasionally arisen. Please be reminded of IEEE policy on that matter, found at: http://eleccomm.ieee.org/email-policy.shtml. Specifically, Sections 4.1.1 and 5.7 are the basis for a long-standing Communications Society policy that IEEE and ComSoc e-mail aliases not be used for electioneering. I trust that everyone will show good judgment on behalf of all our voting members. At the same time, we are encouraging the candidates to make their views known, either by directly contacting or asking their supporters to reach out to friends and colleagues in their own professional communities.
This year we also anticipate a “Q&A” column, to appear on our website and in IEEE Communications Magazine, wherein the candidates will be asked to offer their views on several issues that are of special importance.
ComSoc is making a concerted effort to inform members of the upcoming elections and acquaint them with the candidates, so as to stimulate a large turn-out. Please vote!
Sincerely,
Curtis A. Siller, Jr.
