General Information on the IEEE Siberia Section, Russia

IEEE Siberia Section was established on February 13, 2003 after splitting the Russia Section on three parts – Saint-Petersburg, Moscow and Siberia.

Siberia occupies a large territory – about 76.9% of Russia's territory that is almost 17,037,142 sq.km, and includes eight time zones – from +5 to +12 GMT. It is the largest section of IEEE in the World. We are situated in the three Federal Districts of Russia: Ural (Ekaterinburg is the center), Siberia (Novosibirsk), and the Far-East (Vladivostok), with the total population of 40,565,100 people – almost 27.7% of the Russia total population. The center of the section is Novosibirsk (http://www.novosibirsk.ru) with the population of 1,396,800 people. Almost 46% of the Siberia Section members live and work in Novosibirsk. Another statistics about IEEE membership in the Siberia Section shows on figures.

Cities of the Russia Siberia Section

Our section has the strong potential for membership growth through its big cities at Ural (in the order of population decreasing: Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, etc.), Siberia (Novosibirsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Barnaul, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo, Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Chita, etc.) and the Far-East (Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, etc.) Federal Districts of Russia.

The IEEE Russia Siberia Section is a community for electrical and computer engineers and others with related interests.

We hold professional and technical meetings, tutorials, conferences, etc. for our members and guests.
We actively support education through our network of student branches.
We enhance our local activities with products and services from IEEE worldwide.
We recognize excellence through our awards program.

Problems and Desired Support
One of our main problem is disproportion in membership between academic and industry organizations. We are ready to work with industry organizations.
The Siberia Section is also interested in getting financial support for its activities – conferencies and workshops, participation in exhibitions, several publications of its members. We can advertise your enterprise's business through our activities, including internationally recognized publications. To attention of sponsors: please, contact us for further details.
