Twenty-four hours per day and seven days per week, the staff of Nav Canada's Vancouver Area Control Centre (ACC) provides en route and terminal control to aircraft flying over British Columbia and parts of adjoining provinces. This includes both radar and non-radar Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) control service to all aircraft operating in controlled airspace, and control service to aircraft operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

As part of a major national modernization program, the Vancouver ACC Relocation Project will relocate the existing Area Control Centre located in Richmond, B.C to a new facility in Surrey B.C. The project duration is
approximately 3-1/2 years with $50+ Million in direct and indirect cost.

The tour will begin with a one-hour presentation on Nav Canada, Air Traffic Control/Air Navigation System (ATC/ANS) Operations and the Project. It will conclude with a two-hour tour of the telecommunications infrastructure, backup power systems, radar systems, voice communications systems, flight data processing systems, operational control rooms, and the training simulator in the new facility.

NAV CANADA, the country's provider of civil air navigation services, is a non-share capital, private corporation with operations coast to coast providing air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, aeronautical information, airport advisory services and electronic aids to navigation.
