Abstract

The Bluetooth wireless system is a design for universal wireless cable replacement.  It uses a 2.4GHz short range radio.  It will see wide deployment in the coming years, particularly in cell phones, PDAs, notebook computers and other portable electronics. This techology is being developed the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), a consortium that now has over 2000 member companies worldwide.  See http://www.bluetooth.com.

This talk is partially based on a presentation prepared by the Bluetooth SIG chairman, Jim Kardach of Intel, presented at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference, http://www.microsoft.com/winhec.  Other resources include slide decks compiled by the speaker and posted at http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/bluetooth

The agena includes how the radios work, the primary usage scenarios, the SIG agenda for extending Bluetooth wireless technology, and how Bluetooth wireless technology will be supported in Windows(tm) Operating Systems.

About the Speaker:

Joe Decuir is the chairman of the Seattle chapter of the IEEE Communications Society.  He has worked in communications and networking technologies for 22 years, most recently as a technical evangelist the Windows Division of Microsoft Corporation, covering modems, broadband, home networking and wireless.  He has edited a half-dozen ITU recommendations, and has 12 patents pending or granted.
