Abstract
MBA programs were designed to turn scientists and engineers into managers.
Taking an MBA is still a good choice, but the increasing proliferation
and specialization of MBA programs makes choosing the right program more
difficult than it used to be. SFU's Management of Technology MBA
is an innovative new program designed for full-time students or working
professionals in the technology sector. This talk will focus on issues
that technical professionals face when making the transition to management
and how the MOT MBA program can help ease that transition.
About the Speaker:
Tom Brown has worked as a consultant and educator in the IT field for
over 15 years. He is currently employed at Simon Fraser University, where
he is the Executive Director of both the Management of Technology MBA program
and the on-line Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. In addition
to his administrative responsibilites he teaches office productivity skills
in the Executive MBA program and a variety of courses in MIS in the Faculty
of Business Administration.
