Research In Motion (RIM) is pleased to sponsor the

UBC/IEEE Wireless Solutions Competition Spring 2008

in collaboration with Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks,

UBC Information Technology & the IEEE Communications Society

First prize: $750
Second prize: $500
Honourable Mention: $250

A weekend project!

A chance to perfect your business communications skills!

Come up with an idea for using the UBC Wireless Network (or another wireless service available at UBC like commercial cellular) to make someone's (or some group's) life easier, then develop your business communications skills by convincing the judges that your idea is worth doing!
  • No implementation required, just your idea and evidence that you've discussed it with the group that will benefit!

  • Meet and get noticed by Industry Judges from Research In Motion (RIM), Cisco, Nortel and UBC Information Technology!

  • Write a short proposal describing your idea

  • Work individually or in groups of up to 3 people.

  • Submission Deadline: Midnight on Fri, 25 Jan 2008

  • Finalists will be invited to give oral presentations starting at
    5 pm on Wed, 30 Jan 2008

Hints:

We want you to show how an existing group on campus can enhance or improve their activities using wireless. Anything beyond simple email access or a static web page is fair game.

The group may not be aware of what wireless can do for them.  UBC IT might not be aware of the group.  Your job is to bring them together.

It's okay if the application can be accessed over the Net using a wired PC as long as you show that there are special benefits to being to access it using a nomadic or mobile device via wireless.
