2 More New Courses Added
Registration is Open for November and December

Expanding the breadth of training options, ComSoc Training is proud to offer two new options now and into 2013. Two new courses (one on Self Organizing Networks and another on Machine-to-Machine) have been added to the schedule and more new courses will be added to the calendar in 2013. The 2013 shedule will be released in early December.

WCET Exam Results: Coming Soon

If you took the IEEE WCET Certification Exam during the current testing window you are surely waiting with much anticipation for the results. Rest assured, they are coming soon. Hurricane Sandy caused a slight delay but before month end you will be notified via email the results of your examination. You can also log on to your account to check to see if your results are available. Individual score reports will be sent accordingly. Thank you for your patience.

Mobile Hiring Boom Reveals Upcoming Skills Gap

More than half of the companies in the United States and the United Kingdom have created new jobs with "mobile specific roles" -- including titles such as mobile strategist and chief mobile officer -- but there still aren't enough skilled employees to fill the need, according to a new report from Antenna Software. App Economy Has Created Half a Million Jobs

More than 500,000 jobs have been created by the so-called "app economy" since the launch of the iPhone in 2007, according to a report from CTIA – The Wireless Association and the Application Developers Alliance. California had the highest number of app-related jobs (152,000), but Washington had the highest percentage of total workers employed in the field (4.47%). The report includes a wide variety of people in its half-million count, which covers everything from app developers to salespeople, customer service, and office staff. [IT Business Edge]

Developer Salaries, Jobs Expected to Jump in 2013

Salaries for mobile app developers are expected to increase 9% in 2013, the highest jump for all IT professionals, according to a new survey by Robert Half Technology. Another survey by Information Technology Crossing found that jobs were especially hot for mobile developers and wireless network engineers. [PR]

RF Micro Hiring in Greensboro

Up to 50 employees will be hired by RF Micro Devices in Greensboro, N.C., the company recently announced. Open positions will include jobs for fab operators and process engineers. [Business Journal]

Verizon Hires Mobile Health Exec

Humana veteran Julie King has moved over to Verizon Wireless as their new director of product management for mobile health, a position responsible for their mHealth services. Mobile Heath News says this hire is indicative of the growing importance of mHealth. [Mobile Health News]

AT&T Investing $14 billion in Broadband

At a recent investor conference, AT&T revealed it plans to invest $14 billion in its broadband program over the next three years, $6 billion of which will go toward wireless. The company also increased its LTE rollout projection from 250 to 300 million people by the end of 2014. [RCR Wireless]

Ericsson Cutting 1,550 Jobs in Sweden

Sweden's Ericsson announced it will cut 1,550 jobs from all areas of its business, representing more than 8% of the company's workforce in its home country. The company recently announced a drop in quarterly profits and sales. [FierceWireless]

China's ZTE Becomes Fourth-Largest Smartphone Vendor

Production of low-end smartphones has allowed China's ZTE to zoom past Nokia to become the world's fourth-largest supplier of the devices. The company's market share grew to 4.2% in the third quarter of this year. The higher sales volume, however, did not yield any profits: the company had a net loss last quarter. [Wall Street Journal]

Android Malware Threat Grows Tenfold

Security firm F-Secure says it detected 50,000 malicious Android programs in the third quarter, ten times as many as it saw in the previous quarter. The majority of the malware was seen in China and Russia. The threat level was considered to be low in the European and North American markets. [eWeek]

TI Announces Single-Stage Wireless Charging Chip

Texas Instruments this month showed off a new wireless charging integrated chip -- already shipping in several products -- which the company said is 60% smaller than similar chips that are already on the market. It also announced its first Qi-qualified wireless power transfer controller. [Computerworld]

Ericsson Claims TD-LTE Speed Record

Ericsson says it has reached a new TD-LTE speed record of 223 Mpbs. The demo used the same equipment as employed in China Mobile's network, although no commercial devices will be able to use the new technology until 2014. [The Register]
