On 13 May 1884, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) was born in New York and quickly gained recognition as a representative for American electrical engineers.  Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. was founded on 1 January 1963 from the merger of AIEE with the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE).     The Orlando Section of IEEE was founded in 19

Communications Society a community comprised of a diverse group of industry professionals with a common interest in advancing all communications technologies. To that end, the Society sponsors publications, conferences, educational programs, local activities, and technical committees that:
Foster original work in all aspects of communications science, engineering, and technology.
Encourage the development of applications that use signals to transfer voice, data, image, and/or video information between locations.
Promote the theory and use of systems involving all types of terminals, computers, and information processors; all pertinent systems and operations that facilitate transfer; all transmission media; switched and unswitched networks; and network layouts, protocols, architectures, and implementations.
And strongly advance developments toward meeting new market demands in systems, products, and technologies such as personal communications services, multimedia communications systems, enterprise networks, and optical communications systems.

The Signal Processing Society's areas of interest are the theory and application of filtering, coding, transmitting, estimating, detecting, analyzing, recognizing, synthesizing, recording, and reproducing signals by digital or analog devices or techniques. The term signal includes audio, video, speech, image, communication, geophysical, sonar, radar, medical, musical, and other signals.

The Orlando Joint Chapter's Mission Statement

It is the mission of the IEEE Orlando Section Communications and Signal Processing Chapter (OS IEEE COM/SP ) to be of service to all aspects of the  Electronic Communications and Signal Processing industry in Central Florida.   To this end, OS IEEE COM/SP seeks to:

   -  Establish and maintain a presence in Central Florida's electronic communications industry
         -  among companies known for their research, design and manufacturing activity
         -  among its suppliers, distributors, vendors and service providers
         -  among its educational institutions
         -  among its local government
         -  among its related professional service organizations at the local, national and international levels
   -  Through this presence, promote the professional success and well-being of its members, officers and volunteers
   -  Participate in the education and training of its members, officers and volunteers
   -  Recognize the significant achievements, technical, professional and service-oriented,
         -  of it members, officers and volunteers
         -  of its consituent industry segments and industry players
         -  of constituent government and educational segments and players
   -  Promote the growth of the electronic communications industry as a whole
         -  in its companies and institutions
         -  at local, national and international levels
         -  professionally, technically and economically
