TCCC Meeting Minutes - ICC'95

The meeting was called to order by the chair, Dr. Mark Karol.

Conference and Workshop Activities

The following reports were made concerning our conference activities:

ICC '95 was held in Seattle, WA, June 18-22, 1995. Ioannis Stavrakakis, our TC representative, reported that our TC sponsored 3 tutorials, 4 full sessions, 3 half sessions and co-sponsored another 4 full sessions. Our committee processed over 70 papers, and less than 50% of the papers were accepted. Each paper obtained 3 reviews.

GLOBECOM '95 will be held in Singapore. Our TC representative is Patrick Dowd, reachable at dowd@eng.buffalo.edu. Our committee handled 92 papers. Patrick wanted to extend thanks to all the reviewers since the process was completed in just two weeks.

INFOCOM '96 will be held in San Francisco at the Hotel Nikko, March 1996. The conference general chair is Kazem Sohraby. There will be 6 tutorials. The deadline for paper submissions is July 18th. There will be 5 to 6 panel sessions, more than in previous years. The keynote speaker has not yet been decided.

ICC '96 will be held in Dallas, Texas, June 23-28, 1996. Our TC representative, Ibrahim Habib, may be reached at ibhcc@cunyvm.cuny.edu, Tel: 212-650-7184, Fax: 212-650-8249. So far, he has received 11 proposals for sessions and 2 proposals for tutorials. The abstracts of submitted papers will become available electronically at some time. A meeting of the representatives before Globecom '95 will decide on the papers and sessions.

GLOBECOM '96 will be held in London, November 18-22, 1996. Our TC representative is Doug Schmidt, schmidt@wustl.edu, Tel: 314-935-7538, Fax: 314-935-7302. Only one proposal for a tutorial has been received so far. More suggestions are needed for tutorials and hot topics. Reviewers are also needed. Please contact Doug Schmidt if you would like to help.

INFOCOM '97 will be held in Kobe, Japan, April 7-11, 1997. Tatsuya Suda is the technical program co-chair (suda@ics.uci.edu). The conference co-general chairs are Prof. Hasegawa and Prof. Pickholtz. Besides assuring that Kobe will have recovered from the earthquake by '97, Tatsuya announced the web page at http://www.ics.uci.edu/~infocom/infocom.html. There is also a possibility of conducting a workshop back-to-back with Infocom '97 in addition to the Gigabit workshop. Any inputs on this issue are welcome and should be sent to Tatsuya Suda.

ICC '97 will be held in Montreal, Canada, June 8-12, 1997. Our TC representative is Zygmunt Haas (haas@acm.org).

MILCOM '96. Al Holdemen from Hughes solicited members of the TCCC for sponsorship of sessions in both classified and unclassified topics.

IEEE LAN/MAN Workshop '95 was held in the Florida Keys at Hawk's Cay Resort and Marina on March 26-29, 1995. Dan Pitt, TPC chair, reported that 65 papers were presented originating from 21 countries. There were around 80 participants.

IEEE LAN/MAN Workshop '96 will be held in Potsdam, located just outside of Berlin (and in the former East Germany), in August 26-29 1996. Dan Pitt, General Chair, asked support and participation from our committee.

Other Business

Elections. The final call for elections was held for the TCCC officers at ICC '95. Tatusya Suda won the seat of the Chairman with 88 votes. Magda El Zarki is the next Vice Chair with 87 votes. Henning Schulzrinne became Secretary with 83 votes. The seat of Conference Coordinator went to Roch Guerin with 39 votes. Tom La Porta received 35 votes and Dimitri Kazakos received 13 votes.

Multimedia Magazine. Jeff Darby, the editor in chief of the new Multimedia Magazine, explained that Multimedia Magazine will have a special issue on multimedia communications in 1996. This special issue may be used as a vehicle to enter the Communications Society in this publication.
