Dr. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen is a University Professor and the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Canada. He has demonstrated excellence in mentoring future generations of researchers and engineers, with truly exceptional accomplishments. Under his supervision, 57 PhD students and 51 MASc students have graduated, and 28 of them are faculty members in universities around the world. Currently, he is supervising 14 PhD students and 5 postdoctoral fellows. He has been credited by his former and current students for inspiring and motivating them to conduct original research, to achieve full potential, and to eventually excel as an independent researcher and expert in the related area. Dr. Shen received the Excellent Graduate Supervision Award in 2006 from the University of Waterloo for outstanding graduate supervisor who is a mentor, an advisor, a role model, a humanist and a strategist.. He is a Fellow in the prestigious societies: the IEEE, Engineering Institute of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Royal Society of Canada.
