"For contributions and leadership in the development of the mobile communications industry and innovation in mobile communications technology."
Eros Spadotto serves as the Executive Vice President, Technology Strategy and Operations of TELUS, Canada’s fastest-growing national telecommunications company. His personal passion and vision for transforming the wireless landscape has fuelled the evolution of Canada’s wireless industry over the past two decades.
Since 2000, Eros has been the driving force behind TELUS’ strategy to transform networks and services, setting the future direction for innovative technologies, driving integrated IP-based content delivery networks, launching Heterogeneous Wireless Networks, and revolutionizing wireless/wireline convergence. Eros’ “innovation-first” approach and commitment to harnessing new and unexpected business models has resulted in the launch of one of the world’s largest and most advanced wireless networks. In 2009, he drove the vision for architecting the first North American network sharing agreement between two national wireless operators; TELUS and Bell Canada. In just one year, his team introduced new vendors to Canada, advanced new deployment techniques and fully overlaid the existing networks with what would become Canada’s most advanced and reliable HSPA+ network. Two years later, his team continued to advance TELUS’ capabilities by launching LTE technologies and a 4G all-IP network that resulted in a single access and backbone network for wireless, IPTV, High Speed Internet and business solution traffic.
Widely known for his entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative leadership style, Eros’ vision has been critical to reshaping the telecom landscape in Canada. Over the course of his career his focus on taking innovative risks has resulted in several pioneering achievements: the initial deployment and commercialization of TDMA digital cellular services at Bell Mobility in 1993; the launch of the first iDen push to talk radio technology in Canada at Clearnet Communications in 1996; and co-leading the PCS Spectrum Application at Clearnet in 1995, culminating in a license award in December of that year and a nationwide CDMA PCS launch in 1997, and its integration into the TELUS CDMA network in 2001.
Eros holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Windsor in Canada, and a Master of Business Administration, from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University in Canada.
