This live course is delivered via Zoom and recorded for continued review during the weeks following the live course session.  All who register for the course receive a certificate of participation, are eligible to earn IEEE CEUs (continuing education units) along with which, course participants receive a PDF copy of the course slides.

This course provides cutting edge information about the emerging area of Extended Reality (XR), which encompasses the spectrum of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR).

The global extended reality market size was valued at USD 92.88 billion in 2022 and is projected to grow from $131.54 billion in 2023 to $1,134.79 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 36.0% during 2023-2030. North America dominated the global market with a share of 41.91% in 2022. 1

However, as with any emergent technology, XR faces a multitude of challenges. This course explores both the hardware and software hurdles, such as weight constraints, battery life, content immersion, and user experience nuances. Along with this, the intricacies of XR communication will be addressed covering necessary infrastructure modifications, as well as pivotal considerations around data privacy and security. The course aims to equip participants with an in-depth understanding of the technological backbone supporting XR experiences.

Mischa Dohler, the course instructor, is distinguished for world-leading contributions to the field of Extended Reality (XR). He is currently the VP Emerging Technologies at Ericsson Inc. in Silicon Valley, working on groundbreaking topics of 6G, Metaverse, XR, Quantum and Blockchain.
