Dr. Ana Lucia Pinheiro: has over 20 years of experience in cellular technologies, including their applications and complexities in different verticals. Her experience encompasses research, product development and 3GPP standardization in 5G, LTE and UMTS networks and modems chipsets. As a prolific inventor, she has more than 100 patents filed, with over 70 patents granted by the US patent office, including essential ones which were adopted in various 3GPP specifications. Currently, Ana is a Principal Architect at Mavenir, where she leads a team of system engineers working on Mavenir’s 4G and 5G CBRS product solutions, supporting various customers. Prior to Mavenir, she was part of Samsung’s B2B Sales Account Team as a 5G SME, where supported the AT&T account on “all-things 5G.” Ana’s main areas of engagement at Samsung included ORAN architecture, RAN virtualization, Mission Critical services, small cells solutions, and Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB). Throughout her career, Ana has made several contributions to the wireless industry. In the past year, she published a chapter on “Connected Automobiles” in the book entitled "5G Verticals: Customizing Applications, Technologies and Deployment Technique," which was published by Wiley in April 2020. Prior to Samsung, Ana worked at Intel, where she held different roles, including driving the Control Plane requirements for Intel’s UE LTE chipset. Additionally, she worked on 3GPP standards RAN2, SA1 and SA2 working groups. To note is Ana’s nomination to 3GPP vice-chair candidate for SA1 working group in 2017. At Intel, she also worked on pre-5G-NR prototypes and trials. She was the lead engineer on the first Intel industrial IoT trial showing 5G communications supporting an automated system with control loops operating a conveyer belt, in real time. She designed and executed several demonstrations that were presented at the Mobile World Congress, including the famous “Intel Batman game.” Prior to Intel, Ana worked at InterDigital for 10 years in various roles, always concentrating on cellular communications. Dr. Pinheiro received her PhD in ECE from Rutgers University (at WINLAB) and an Executive MBA from Hofstra University. She is very passionate about her work, and she truly enjoys coaching and mentoring other engineers. When not solving complex technical problems, she enjoys gardening, cooking, jewelry making and spending time with family, friends and her dog Jasper.
