IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine Seeks New Editor-in-Chief

IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine (WCM), one of the flagship magazines of the IEEE Communications Society, is currently searching for an Editor-in-Chief to lead this magazine. WCM is designed for an audience working in the wireless communications and networking communities, covering technical, policy and standards issues relating to wireless communications and engineering practices. It is an interdisciplinary magazine that provides survey and tutorial articles of high quality and depth concerning the revolutionary technological advances in wireless/mobile communications, networking, computing, and mobile services.

Eligibility and qualification: The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) should be an internationally recognized leader in the wireless community and have a broad perspective on wireless communications, networking, computing, and mobile services. The candidate must have commendable editorial experience and diversified technical expertise, with the vision to lead an editorial team to identify hot and important topics and attract high quality articles in wireless communications research and engineering practices. Since the magazine relies on special issues, the candidate should be able to assemble a high quality guest editorial team for each topic, work closely with them, and shepherd them in the entire process from call for papers to the issue publication, ensuring conformance to IEEE publication guidelines. Finally, the candidate must have a broad vision for the magazine and on how to improve the submissions, the quality of review process, and the editorial decision-making process, and thus elevate the stature of the magazine.

Selection process: A search committee consisting of all Publications Council members, chaired by Vice President–Publications Sherman Shen, will carefully evaluate all candidates and select the best suitable candidate.

Term of the EiC: The Editor-in-Chief serves for a two-year term, renewable for additional one-year. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member of the IEEE Communications Society. Due to the imminent expiration of the incumbent EiC, the confirmed EiC will work with the incumbent EiC immediately and make the transition at the end of June, 2018, with the expectation that the incumbent EiC will continue to provide consultation to the new EiC.

Application: The deadline for nominations and applications is midnight May 20, 2018 (eastern standard time). Review of applications by the search committee will commence immediately after the deadline. Nominations/applications should include the following items in electronic format (PDF):

  • Nomination/application letter.
  • Candidate statement about their vision on how to improve the intellectual quality, scientific impact, and visibility of the magazine
  • Brief description of the candidate’s editorial expertise and technical expertise.
  • Detailed curriculum vitae.

For full consideration, please send all information in one file to the search committee at fang@ece.ufl.edu. We will begin reviewing applications by May 21, 2018. Further questions may be directed to Michael Fang, the Director of Magazines, IEEE Communications Society.
