A Deep Dive into 5G Technology and Emerging Applications

IEEE ComSoc School Series events are designed to help kick-start the careers of ComSoc Student Members interested in communication technologies. The 6th Edition will be held on 22-26 June 2020 on the campus of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIT) Bangalore, Bangalore India. The event features a highly interactive classroom environment with an intense focus on learning the cutting-edge trends in communications technology, as well providing demonstrations and networking activities.  Specifically, the program of the IEEE ComSoc School Series: Bangalore Summer School will focus on providing a “A Deep Dive into 5G Technology and Emerging Applications.”

Eligibility Requirements

Participants in the IEEE ComSoc School Series program must:

  • not have previously attended a ComSoc School Series event (including Summer or Autumn School)
  • be an IEEE Communications Society Student Member
  • be proficient in spoken and written English

In addition, application to this ComSoc School Series event requires a brief reference from the applicant’s thesis advisor or manager.

Preliminary Program

During an intensive 5-day program, a select group of students will:

  • Network with technical experts and business executives
  • Collaborate with like-minded engineers
  • Experienced lectures by international communications technology experts
  • Engage in varied learning opportunities including lectures, lab visit, and hands-on experiences

The program for the 2020 IEEE ComSoc School Series:  Bangalore Summer School will focus on 5G Technology and Emerging Applications.

The IEEE ComSoc School Series: Bangalore Summer School event will take place on the campus of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore.  Lodging for students accepted into the program from outside of the region is provided on campus as well.

Travel and Location, Venue

The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, located in Bangalore, India popularly known as IIITB, was established in 1999 with a vision to contribute to the IT world by focusing on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation. The Institute is a registered not-for-profit society funded jointly by the Government of Karnataka and the IT industry.

Since its inception, IIITB, with its unique model of education, research, and industry interaction, has grown in stature to become an institution of considerable repute in academic as well as corporate circles. The Institute works in partnership with the corporate sector, while retaining the freedom of an academic institution. It is inspired by other renowned institutions, and also strives to emulate an academic culture that is on par with the best international institutions.

The IIITB campus is located in Electronic City, the heart of Bangalore’s IT hub.  There is round the clock security and all student accommodation rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi. The campus is well-connected to the rest of the city.

The closest international airport is Kempegowda Bangalore / Bengaluru International Airport (code name BLR).  Click here to view on Google Maps.

Convenient transportation from the airport to the campus is available. One can take the bus number KIA8 (air-conditioned) for approximately $6 USD. It runs around the cloud with space to hold baggage. The bus starts from the Kempegowda BLR Airport to Electronic City (final destination), and it is available right outside the airport. Alternatively, one can also take cabs such as an Airport Taxi or an Uber or an OLA which can cost around USD $30 to reach Electronic City.

Housing and Travel

Student Lodging

For students accepted into the program, accommodations will be provided on the campus of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore for six nights during this event (from 21st night to -26th night June 2020). Full details will be provided to students whose applications are accepted for this program. Students are expected to arrive on afternoon or evening of Sunday 21st June 2020, and depart on morning or afternoon of Saturday 27th June 2020.

Meals

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided on all days of the program 22nd June to 26th June. In addition, dinner will be provided on 21st Sunday night after arrival, and breakfast will be provided on 27th Saturday morning as well prior to departure.

Travel

Travel expenses are the responsibility of the student and will not be reimbursed by IEEE nor by other event organizer(s).
