IEEE WCP – New Logo Now Available for Use
IEEE WCPs can now more easily display their IEEE WCET Certification Credential with the new IEEE WCP logo. Display the logo on your business cards and on your email signature to show that you are one of the elite professionals who have earned IEEE WCET Certification. Receive your copy of the logo by emailing Tara Gallus. Note that your IEEE WCET Certification must be up to date in order to receive the logo file. IEEE general guidelines for use of IEEE logos on business cards need to be applied.
MCPC Celebrated in June 20 Years of Leading Wireless Industry Professionals in Japan

Congratulations on the 20th anniversary celebration of IEEE WCET Program Partner, MCPC (Mobile Computing Promotion Consortium) of Japan. As stated by Mr. Masahiro Hataguchi, Secretary General of MCPC, "MCPC has been so successful in supporting Japanese mobile industry for last 20 years through standardization education and training. MCPC will continue to do the same thing and more for next two decades." Established in June 1997 as an NGO, MCPC promotes mobile computing technology and industry through contributions from mobile network operators, computer hardware manufacturers, software manufacturers, and system integrators.
MCPC's MSEC (Mobile System Engineering Certification) program facilitates the validation of qualified skills of mobile engineers in Japan. MCPC also developed a certification program for IoT system engineers, which launched last year. Now MCPC continues its partnership with IEEE ComSoc for the IEEE Wireless Communication Engineering Technologies (WCET) Certification exam in Japan. This partnership is one of the fruitful collaboration outcomes between the two parties since 2011.
In June in honor of their milestone anniversary, MCPC hosted a symposium and a separate anniversary party with more than 300 participants. The MCPC Symposium commenced with opening remarks from Masahiro Hataguchi, Secretary General of MCPC followed by two memorial lectures. The first memorial lecture titled “Toward the realization of a data-driven society” was presented by Mr. Yasuhiko Taniwaki, Director-General of the Global ICT Strategy Bureau of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (position title as of June 2017). Mr. Taniwaki’s lecture was followed by Dr. Tatsuo Tomita, the Chairman of the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan whose talk focused on “IoT and Cyber-security.”
The 20th anniversary party began with an opening address by Dr. Yasuhiko Yasuda, Chairman of MCPC and emeritus professor of Waseda University and University of Tokyo. Next, there were greetings offered by Mr. Masahiko Tominaga, Director-General of the Telecommunications Bureau of MIC (position title as of June 2017) and Mr. Chris Heffer, Minister-Counselor of British Embassy Japan. Mr. Hiroyasu Asami, Vice-Chairman of MCPC, NTT Docomo Senior Executive Vice President then kicked off the party with a toast. Representatives of MCPC’s major industrial member companies such as Mr. Fumio Watanabe Chairman of KDDI Research, Inc. also spoke at the event. Congratulatory messages from the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe as well as others from government and industry were shared with attendees. A ceremony to announce MCPC Awards winners was one of the many highlights of the evening.

IEEE WCET Recertification: Renew Your Credential
A message from Dr. Mohamed M. A. Moustafa, Chair, IEEE WCET Recertification & Accreditation Committee.
Recertification is required after three years for those who certified or renewed their certification in 2015 and later. Renewal of IEEE WCET Certification is due after five years for those who certified before 2015 and upon successful recertification, these individuals will be on the 3 year renewal cycle.
Recertification can be performed by:
- By passing the then current exam, or
- By showing a minimum number of earned Professional Development Units (PDUs), as appropriate for the length of the current certification. 100 PDUs are required for those renewing and required to show five years of professional activities (i.e. WCP credential holders before 2015) and 60 PDUs for those renewing under the current three-year cycle (i.e. 2015 WCP credential holders and later).
All the certificates issued beginning 1 January 2017 are valid for a three-year period.
IEEE WCP credential holders who originally earned IEEE WCET Certification in 2012, are now required to apply for the recertification to keep their credential active.
