Saewoong Bahk is a professor at Seoul National University (SNU), Korea. He is currently serving as vice president of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS), chief information officer (CIO) of SNU, director of Asia-Pacific Board (APB) of IEEE Communication Society. He is general chair of IEEE DySPAN 2018 and IEEE WCNC 2020. He was TPC chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) Spring 2014. He is co-Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for the Journal of Communications and Networks (JCN) and an associate editor for the IEEE Network Magazine. He was on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (TWireless) and Computer Networks Journal (COMNET). He has been serving as TPC members for IEEE Globecom, ICC, INFOCOM, PIMRC, HPSR, WCNC.
Prior to joining SNU, he was with AT&T Bell Laboratories as a member of technical staff during 1991-1994. He served as director of the Institute of New Media and Communications during 2009–2011. He received the KICS Haedong Scholar award in 2012, and excellent teaching and performance awards in 2010 and 2014, respectively, from SNU. He has led many industrial projects on 3G/4G/5G and IoT connectivity supported by Samsung, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, and others, and published more than 200 technical papers and holds 78 patents. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from SNU in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
