Tao Zhang

For over 25 years, Dr. Tao Zhang has been leading research, product development, and corporate strategies, and have created a range of disruptive technologies in vehicular networks, fog and edge computing, IoT, cellular networks, and fiber optic networks. He is the Senior Director for Technology and Strategy Development at Huawei Technologies. He was the CTO / Chief Scientist for Cisco’s Smart Connected Vehicles Business Unit, which he helped build from ground up. He was the Chief Scientist for vehicular networking and the Director of multiple R&D groups on mobile networks at Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore, originally part of Bell Labs). Tao cofounded the OpenFog Consortium and has been leading fog computing from a little-known immature concept to a global industry trend and a vibrant R&D field. He cofounded, and was a founding Board Director for, the Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA) in the USA. Tao is an IEEE Fellow and a Chair Professor at National Chiao Tung University. He served as the CIO and a Board Governor of the IEEE Communications Society in 2016 and 2017. He holds over 50 US patents and has coauthored two books “Vehicle Safety Communications: Protocols, Security, and Privacy” and “IP-Based Next Generation Wireless Networks”.
