Course Description

This is a combination offering of our very popular intensive wireless course and a seat for the WCET (Wireless Communicaitons Engineeering Technologies) Certification Exam. With this offer you get:

  1. A seat in the 4-day online course (10-13 April 2018) along with all the course materials and access to the streaming video recording for 15 business days after the course
  2. A seat for the Spring 2018  WCET Certification Exam

 

Background information about the course and how it relates to the exam:

This course does not teach the exam. ComSoc Training does not offer any courses that teach the exam. The WCET Certification Exam is vendor-neutral and trans-national in scope. It covers seven key areas in wireless that practitioners working in the field should be proficient in including: RF Engineering, Propagation, and Antennas; Wireless Access Technologies; Network and Service Architecture; Network Management and Security; Facilities Infrastructure; Agreements, Standards, Policies, and Regulations; and Fundamental Knowledge. Review the exam specifications for a clear and conscise understanding of the breadth and depth of what is covered on this exam.

The 4-day course covers all seven areas tested on the exam. The Wireless Engineering Body of Knowledge (WEBOK) which is part of the course materials for this course also provides additional resources at the end of each chapter which address all seven areas covered on the exam. The WEBOK is an essential study aid in preparing for the exam.

  • You will be emailed a code to use when you apply for the WCET exam when the application window opens on 2 January 2018.  You will then visit www.ieee-wcet.org/apply.html to complete your application for the WCET exam. All applications must be completed and submitted by 30 March 2018. If you fail to complete your application and/or sit for the exam during the Spring 2018 testing window, you forfeit the exam seat. Partial refunds are not available.
  • The WEBOK, 2nd. Edition will be shipped to you prior to the start of the course.
  • You will receive a WebEx invitation to participate in the online course 1-2 business days before the start of the course.

Who Should Attend

The course plus WCET exam seat is ideal for candidates seeking certification in wireless communications engineering technology for use in their preparations for the WCET exam.

The purpose of the course is to provide a comprehensive and up to date review of wireless communication for engineering professionals, instructors and students. The course covers wireless transmission and reception principles, electromagnetic propagation, antenna characteristics, and wireless network access techniques. Cellular wireless interfaces and core networks from second generation GSM and CDMA  through fourth generation LTE and LTE advanced are covered in detail, and the requirements and new technology directions for the fifth generation are presented. Other wireless systems and networks, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee, as well as satellite communication, are discussed as well.

A well rounded wireless engineering professional needs to know non-wireless aspects of network communication, and accordingly this course teaches the basics of internet protocol, network and service architectures, and communications security and location technologies. Features of communication infrastructure and engineering documentation conclude the course curriculum.  Practice questions with answers and discussion are provided throughout the course to monitor understanding of the material covered.

Alan Bensky

MScEE, IEEE WCP, Electronics Engineering Consultant

Alan Bensky is an electronics engineering consultant with over 30 years of experience in analog and digital design, management, and marketing. Specializing in wireless circuits and systems, Alan has carried out projects for varied military and consumer applications and led the development of three patents on wireless distance measurement. Alan has taught electrical engineering courses and lectures on radio engineering topics and is the author of two books: Short-range Wireless Communication, Second Edition, published by Elsevier in 2004, and Wireless Positioning Technologies and Applications, Second Edition, Artech House, 2016. In addition, he is a contributing author to five other books dealing with wireless communication. Alan Bensky holds degrees of B.E.E and B.A. from Union College, Schenectady, New York, and M.Sc.E.E. from the Technion in Haifa, Israel. He is a senior member of IEEE and an IEEE certified Wireless Communications Professional.

Clarification on Course Materials and Delivery.

An electronic copy of the instructor's PowerPoint slide presentation is provided to all online course registrants. The WEBOK 2nd Edition will be mailed to the address specified in your order to arrive the day before the course begins for those who register before 30 March; the WEBOK will be sent out 1-2 business days after your order is received. It may take another 3-5 days to reach you.
