Xuemin (Sherman) Shen (M’97-SM’02-F’09) received the BSc (1982) degree from Dalian Maritime University (China) and the MSc (1987) and PhD (1990) degrees from Rutgers University, New Jersey (USA), all in electrical engineering. Dr. Shen is a University Professor, and was the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Canada. His research focuses on wireless resource management, wireless network security, social networks, smart grid, and vehicular ad hoc and sensor networks. Dr. Shen is the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Internet of Things Journal (since 2017), IEEE Network (2012-2015), Peer-to-Peer Networking and Application (2008-2017), and IET Communications (since 2011); and a Founding Area Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2006-2009). He served as the Technical Program Committee Chair/Co-Chair for IEEE Globecom’16, Infocom’14, IEEE VTC’10 Fall, and Globecom’07, the Symposia Chair for IEEE ICC’10, the Tutorial Chair for IEEE VTC’11 Spring and IEEE ICC’08, the General Co-Chair for ACM Mobihoc’15 and Chinacom’07, and the Chair for IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Wireless Communications (2011-2012). Dr. Shen received the Education Award (2017) and Joseph LoCicero Award (2015) from IEEE ComSoc, the Technical Recognition Award (2013) from the IEEE ComSoc Ad Hoc & Sensor Networks Technical Committee, the Excellent Graduate Supervision Award (2006) and the Outstanding Performance Award (2014, 2010, 2007, and 2004) from the University of Waterloo, the Premier’s Research Excellence Award (2003) from the Province of Ontario, Canada. Dr. Shen is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society of Canada. He is a Distinguished Lecturer/Speaker of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (since 2011) and Communications Society (2009-2010).
