Position Statement

As the world embraces momentous opportunities and challenges, ComSoc needs to retain its leadership through smart navigation. If elected, I will meticulously work to evolve existing initiatives and spearhead the new ones with the objectives to:

  • Provide additional venues for disruptive technology initiatives (e.g., new conference tracks, special journal issues) including convergence of communications with control, computing, sensing and quantum arenas. 
  • Strengthen industry involvement for members’ professional growth; and augment technical conferences and publications with technology trends and industry-academia collaboration outcome.
  • Bolster the role of distinguished lecturers, disseminate quality technical information, structure mentoring opportunities, and extend cost-effective online educational offerings.
  • Enable students and YPs to engage in more interdisciplinary researches, innovative projects and hands-on workshops, also incorporating humanitarian and sustainability elements.
  • Ensure that ComSoc represents a broad range of perspectives by co-working with IEEE and other professional societies; and promoting D&I from gender to geography.

Biography

As Corporate VP, Samsung (S.Korea), Dr.De has made significant contributions in 5G and AIoT. With his stewardship as CTO, Samsung India secured 5500+patents in a decade with numerous (inter)national IP awards. With 50+patents filed/granted and multitude of product development in 32 years of corporate life, he is now a Consultant in the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) arena. Recently, he has co-edited 6G book (Springer). He also serves as Adjunct Professor in IISc-Bangalore and BoG member in premier institutes. 

He is recipient of ‘Alexander Graham Bell Prize’ (Canada) for doctoral research in McGill University. He received industry awards for ‘Telecom Innovation’, ‘AI Game-changer’, ‘Çorporate Tech Leadership’ and ‘Intrapreneurship’. He is Fellow of IEI, IETE, INAE and SMIEEE. He is serving ComSoc, for 25years, as author/reviewer, general/tpc (co)-chairs in conferences. While ComSoc Chapter Chair, Bangalore received best APAC Chapter(2020), Chapter-of-Year-Award(2021). His outstanding leadership to Bangalore Section is recognized with IEEE MGA Innovation Award(2023).
